The Discovery Dock Initiative began in 2020 as a way to update and enhance the grounds of the Discovery Middle School School Forest. The docks were nearly 30 years old and in need of replacement. A local group of youth outdoor education enthusiasts created a way to leverage local resources to replace the docks, one dock at a time.
The Alexandria Rotary Club helped one of the docks for the Geneva Pond. The students will use the docks for learning activities like pond and water studies, habitat analysis, macroinvertebrate sampling, and more. The community will also benefit from the dock as many users enjoy the nearby walking trails.
